After Robert Brinkley Snowden graduated from Princeton in 1890, he decided to return to his hometown to design and construct his family estate. Snowden, a prominent real estate developer, completed Ashlar Hall in 1896.The SCC&RR was completed in 1833 between Charleston and Hamburg. After a few mergers it became part of theSouth Carolina & Georgia Railroad in 1894 and then the modern Southern in 1899.
